Question:
Any good books?

I'm a 14 year old boy but I really don't care what age group or gender the book's for. I like drama, comedy, horror, thrillers, and much more. So what are some good books?

Try to stay away from classic books by famous authors like Johnny Tremain or Phantom of the Opera.(basically anything they would make you read in school) I hate those books. And also stay away from old english.

Thanks

Anything by Robert A. Heinlein; Grand Master of Science Fiction. Here's a sampling of his 50+ titles. Red Planet, The Cat Who Walks Through Walls, Number of the Beast, Variable Star, Time Enough for Love, To Sail Beyond the Sunset, Sixth Column, Methuselah's Children, Revolt in 2000, The Rolling Stones, Starship Troopers (vastly different and better than the movie), Stranger in a Strange Land, and many more...

I would highly suggest a fun summer read called The Great Influenza by John Barry. It is a narrative history of the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918. It is well-written and not dull or sciencey.

It tells about how our hospitals were basically in the Dark Ages and there was little we could do. Cities had bodies just stacked on porches because there wasn't enough people to bury them.

Just fascinating and not at all as macabre as it sounds.

Might as well read something true.

There are 2 good websites for someone like you who likes to read but wants to stay away from those books like you would read in school.

PagebyPagebooks.com

or Classicbooks.com

Both of these sites are free and contain a whole book that has a complete description of what the book is about and while these books may seem like those they may make you read in school, one advantage to reading them now is that you will be ONE STEP AHEAD OF THE GAME and you can save your time for what you consider to be 'more important things.'

Why not read a good Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew mystery?
Yours Truly.

Killing Britney by sean olin: mystery; about a girl's friends keep dying

Claws by WIll Weaver: realistic fiction; a cheating father and how his son is dealing with it.

Twisted by Laurie Halse Anderson: realistic fiction; about a boy that turns into a man in highschool

And of course the twilight series by Stephenie Meyer: A 21st century vampire love with great action

Well, honestly one of my favorite books is Party Monster by James St James.

It's an easy read but it is SO hilarious and gives you an interesting outlook on life because it's coming from the perspective of a drug addled/drag queen/club kid in New York.

It's defiantly not one of those deeper meaning books but you will get a ton of good laughs.

Life's too short to take everything TOO seriously.

Try "The Watchers" by Dean Koontz . It has mystery, romance, science fiction, suspense, and it all revolves around a man and a Golden Retriever suspected to have human intelligence. One of the best books I ever read. When the action starts, its hard to put it down.

Matthew Reilly - they're action/adventure, some sci-fi elements.

(Ice Station, Contest, Seven Ancient Wonders, etc)

Michael Crichton - like Matt Reilly, but even better.

(Congo, Sphere, The Andromeda Strain)

Terry Pratchett - fantasy writer - funny and intelligent stuff. I know you didn't say you liked fantasy (I don't like it much either), but I find his stuff really good.

(The Colour of Magic, The Light Fantastic, Night Watch)

Hope that's sort of what you were after.

a another one is BANG! by Sharon G. Flake heres a summary to it : Mann is only thirteen, yet he has already had to deal with more than most go through in a lifetime. His family is still reeling from the tragic shooting death of his little brother, Jason, each person coping with grief in his or her own way. Mann's mother has stopped eating and is obsessed with preserving Jason's memory, while his father is certain that presenting a hard edge is the only way to keep his remaining son from becoming a statistic. Mann used to paint and ride horseback, but now he's doing everything he can to escape his emotions: getting involved in fights at school, joyriding at midnight, and much worse. His father, at his wit's end, does the only thing he thinks will teach his son how to be a man he abandons him and his friend Kee Lee in the woods, leaving them to navigate their way home, alone.

Review:

"In a contemporary, hard-hitting survival tale set in a neighborhood where people get shot 'for no real reason,' Flake (The Skin I'm In) follows an African-American boy's harrowing initiation into manhood. Two years after Mann's seven-year-old brother is killed in a drive-by shooting, the boys' father decides to teach 13-year-old Mann, who narrates, the same lesson received by boys in African tribes. He drives Mann and his best friend, Kee-lee, into the woods and leaves them there to fend for themselves. Wild animals prove to be less of a threat than the people the boys encounter, and once they do return to the city, Mann's father turns them out again to find out what direction they want to take in life ('You wanna be a pimp — well, there's a road that'll lead you there. Wanna be a thief, sell crack and live high and die hard — well, that road's waiting for you too,' says Mann's father). The method used to induct Mann into a violent world will spark as much controversy among readers as it does among characters in the book, but in the end, Mann (who fares better than his friend Kee-lee) does learn some important lessons that go beyond survival. There is a gradual yet notable change in his morality as he searches his soul to find what kind of man he wants to be. Ages 12-up. (Sept.)" Publishers Weekly (Copyright Reed Business Information, Inc.)

Synopsis:

After the shooting death of his little brother, 13-year-old Mann tries to escape his emotions. To toughen Mann up and prevent him from becoming a statistic, Mann's father draws from African tradition and abandons Mann and his friend Kee Lee in the woods, leaving them to find their own way home.
