Question:
Are the UK editions of Harry Potter really the definitive versions?

So I finally imported the UK editions of Harry Potter (children's hardcover box set) just to finally read them without the scholastic changes, and I'm already very disappointed.

I only just got them and just started Philosopher's Stone, and so far the changes were exactly what I expected just keeping the british english and mannerisms I knew were changed. That's all well and good, and that's exactly why I bought the books, but then I get to "The Sorting Hat" and they completely take out Dean Thomas! Is this just one itty bitty flaw that I shouldn't even worry about, or will "removals" like this be a common occurrence throughout Philosopher's Stone and, as I'm fearing, the rest of the series?!?

Thanks.

Well the UK versions are what JK Rowling wrote so if Deans not in them now then she probably didn't want him to be. Keep in mind, he'll have to appear eventually because of what happens in the fifth and seventh book. And yes, there will probably be other omissions and additions but it shouldn't be anything too major. If you think about it, Dean doesn't really play a larger part until at least the fifth book. Just keep reading them, and if you've read them all and find you still don't like them then go back to the American version and sell the UK ones if you don't want to keep them (I'm sure someone else wants to read that version).

The UK versions are what J.K. Rowling wrote and intended, so they're sort of 'correct'.

The UK publisher might have thought the Dean Thomas part was unnecessary.

The UK edition is the correct edition.

Other versions such as the American editions are not what the author intended.

They took out Dean Thomas? That can't be right.

Are you sure that you have the correct versions? O.o
