Hello people in internet space!
mmmmm.. well, i just finished Christopher Moors 'Lamb' and it was excellente!! Totaly funny and in the same time deliverying way to many pearls of wisdom to live by; which in my eyes makes it a super classic for a youger reader. So, back on topic. I'm looking for a new book to read that will have some Philoshical questions, or ideas, or spiritual, etc... And hopefully be enjoyable to read as well. After I read Lamb i have this desire to learn more about Eastern Philsophy, well, and I read Life of Pi, and it talks a little about different religions, and I would really like to know more.
Any suggestions for some good reads?
I also would love to read about Hitler and Jews, but I don't want to read a history book, because they bore me.
I don't know why, but Jewish people fascinate me! There is something there! they have something going on that isn't normal... I must figure it out!!! ;-)

Try reading A Dirty Job, also by Christopher Moore. It doesn't have much to do with any of your other criteria, but I just finished it and loved it (I also adored Lamb and have given it to three different people to read).

As far as stuff you've requested: The Plot Agaisnt America, by Philip Roth, is about a fictionional Jewish family during World War II in America. The plot takes on the premise that FDR didn't win his last term, but that Charles Lindbergh did (who was a Nazi sympathizer) instead, and lays out what life is like for a Jewish family under those circumstances. I really enjoyed the book (I thought I wouldn't at first) and have also recommended it to a few people.

If you liked Lamb, I'd recommend Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. It's essentially the story of the anti-Christ if he was raised as a typical boy (for example, he's REALLY good at video games.) You may also like Pratchett's "Small Gods," which is the story of a god of a sweeping theocracy, who really only has one true believer, destined to be the next prophet. Lots of philosophical questions and ideas--for example, do people really need gods, or do gods really need people? What does it mean to believe in something, and how does belief shape that thing? etc. Pratchett's books, in general, are extremely funny, but deliver pearls of wisdom all along the way. Other suggestions would be "Wyrd Sisters", "Jingo," "Soul Music," and "Thud!"

Well, I recommend The Perks of Being a Wallflower to everyone, its just a great book.

As far as holocaust lit, there is obviously Anne Frank. Also The Pianist (the book is much better than the movie). Schindler's List as well (though I will say the movie was very very well done). I also hear Wartime Lies is very good, though I have yet to get around to reading it.

I loved that book as well! I can't think of any philosophical books of the top of my head.... but I can think of a very very funny biblical? book.... Have you read Good Omens by Neil Gaiman. It is very funny and I loved it as much as Lamb..... Good luck and happy reading.

All of Christopher Moore's stuff is great. But if you really want religion or philosophy stuff "The Language of God" is fantastic or for the younger group "Sophie's World".
