Question:
Good Books for a 13 Year Old Girl to Read?
anonymous

I read adult books more often than young adult literature (and I fully understand it without problem--I qualify to be in MENSA, just so you know), and it's getting really difficult for me to find something nowadays that's at my level and be something my mother would approve of.

I like:

Horrors
Thrillers
Adventure
Drama
Historical Fiction
Mystery (mainly with crime, of course)
Supernatural

I'm not girly at all and can't stand things like "The Clique," and "Gossip Girl," or anything Nicholas Sparks. I cannot stand vampires or werewolves (unless it's "Dracula," but I can't quite get my hands on that quite yet).

My mother is a preacher, by the way. So I am fairly limited (except I can read stuff like "Cujo," and some others by Stephen King, but nothing like "The Shining," just yet).

Suggestions please?

i think that in your maturity you could definantly read cujo and understand all that the book is worth, i think that you are mature enough to give credit where credit is due when you read and i hope that you enjoy the novel. king is my favorite author and out of all of the books that i have read from him cujo still is and always will be my favorite. being a mother i understand what lengths donna trenton did for her son and how much she when through to protect him. you would definantly love this book cause you get a two point perspective

I'm glad you were specific with you're question. I hate when people just ask, "What are some books for a 12 year old?" and expect people to figure out what genre they like. Anyway, I think you should try some Lauren Myracle and Erin Hunter books. And Laura Joh Rowland if you like asian historical(ish?) fiction.

Bliss

Rhymes with Witches (could be a little too cliche high school life...)

Warrior series (could be a little too fantasy...)

Crystal Doors trilogy

Harry Potter series

Coraline (I haven't read it)

The books I read at your age I don't think your mother would approve of. But, you could probably convince her to let you read classics like Edgar Allen Poe anthologies, H.P. Lovecraft novels, or Sherlock Holmes. You would also probably enjoy books by Neil Gaimen.

Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul II

Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul is an excellent book for every teenager, and anyone who wants to understand what problems teenagers are facing these days. This book contains stories that range from incredibly funny to sad and serious, but yet uplifting. All teenagers facce hardships that have to do with self esteem and fitting in. It is a book that you can go to when you are having problems. I feel tha tevery teenager can relate to this book. It is a good book to uplift your spirits.
