Manuscript format, non-fiction?

I am writing a non-fiction book and need to use pictures/diagrams to demonstrate the point that I am trying to make. Would this be okay to put in a manuscript as long as they are cited properly or would it be best to just go without the pictures and allow the editor/publisher to find them and put them in? Cannot find anything about this on the web and I don't have a particular publisher in mind.

If the text would be better explained with the usage of diagrams, sketches, pictures, photos, etc. you should put them in at the relevant places. However, nowadays with everyone submitting electronically via e-mail initially, make a note to the editors that the material is low resolution and that original versions of higher resolution can be supplied via CD/DVD. Also: please ensure that you adhere to copyright laws. If you use other people's material, you must have their written explicit permission and be able to show proof of such to future editors. Likewise they need to be properly acknowledged! Believe me: no editor/publisher has the time to search for relevant pics/photos - so don't expect them to do so!

I assume that these pictures/diagrams are not your own work. If they are, it is a non-issue - just note your copyright.

If they aren't, I would include *copies* with appropriate citations. You don't want to make your editor do anything more than edit. Presumably, his job is to help you get published - not to be your gopher.

BTW, this is my logical analysis - I am not a published writer, so consider this advice only for what it's worth.

they're certainly distinctive. do not hassle concerning the formatting until you're waiting to place up the radical and the writer asks you to deliver it to them. THEN exchange the formatting to healthy that writer. for the basics examine out the Writers Digest magazine or industry e book (they placed articles interior the merchandising e book that are written via brokers and editors with what they choose...) What I do is write each thing -- double spaced with a one inch margin all around, start up each and each financial disaster 0.5 way down a sparkling web site (separate with an internet site ruin) Tab in 5 areas for sparkling paragraphs... Font: situations New Roman (or Courier) 12 component. no fancy fonts, underline italic words, words. quantity the pages with a header (will do automobile if set up properly) and shop shop shop.
