Question:
A really good book to read for a 16 year old?
2011-02-22 06:05:53 UTC
Im 16 years old. I would really like a good book to read. I'm not a big reader and so don't really know where to start looking. Are there any examples you could give me or recommend a book to me to read?
I like funny books, something that will make me giggle. Romantic stories are nice, i don't want anything too dark or dreery...i don't want to feel depressed after reading a book. I dont mind sad books but i don't want a scary or creepy book.
Although if there really is a great book that you think anyone would realy like then let me know and i'll check it out.
Also as i am a teenager a book that would appeal to a young person would be good. (But please don't recommend the Twilight Saga...i havn't read them and i'm sick of hearing about them...im not interested!!!)

Also if you could tell me a little about them as well that would be good and if it sounds really good ill check it out further.
Thank you :)

Let's see. Have you tried Sarah Dessen or Judy Blume? Their books are specifically written for girls in their mid-to-late teens. I'd start with Sarah Dessen's That Summer (funny and sweet), then move on to The Truth About Forever (not all that funny, but it has its moments -and the male lead is positively yummy!)

Personally, I'm into Laurie Halse Anderson's books. Hers are rather intense, but have happy (or at least, pretty decent) resolutions. They're definitely not happy books, but in the end you feel great for having read them. I'd pick up Speak (pretty intense), Fever 1793 (interesting), or Prom (that one *is* funny).

Deb Caletti is also quite alright. I love her book Honey, Baby, Sweetheart. Her very best. It has romance, adventure, and loads of humor. 100% recommended.

I like John Green, too. Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns are excellent and have lots of LOL moments. They also have substance and high quality writing, so those will probably sit well with you. His books are rather too alike to each other, though, so if you're going to read only one, let it be Paper Towns.

A seriously funny book, if for a somewhat younger audience (but not by much) is Millicent Min, Girl Genius by Lisa Yee. I laughed so much with it! Really sweet.

And last but not least, my top favorite teen-girl LOL book: Enthusiasm by Polly Shulman. Just read it, it's great. =)

Enjoy!

Little House book series by author Laura InGalls Wilder. About the life of Laura and what its like living in those times.

Magic Tree House book series by Mary Pope Osborne. Though it is childish, Mary makes learning fun by having her main characters Jack (brother of Annie) and Annie (Jack's sister) go on adventures in a magic treehouse owned by Morgan Le Fay. They help her solve riddles by these adventures and Jack and Annie also learn many things.

The series are over 40 books, plus other books that have learning in them (but are not told in an adventure or a story. Similar to a textbook).

You'll get lost into them. I mean, the book (ordered by number) will instantly give you the imagination of what's happening and how it's being said, almost.

. The first book of the series is Jack and Annie's first adventure. They first discover the treehouse, and are taken to the time of dinosaurs.

The truth about forever. Sarah dessen: Macy's summer stretches before her, carefully planned and outlined. She will spend her days sitting at the library information desk. She will spend her evenings studying for the SATs. Spare time will be used to help her obsessive mother prepare for the big opening of the townhouse section of her luxury development. But Macy's plans don't anticipate a surprising and chaotic job with Wish Catering, a motley crew of new friends, or ... Wes. Tattooed, artistic, anything-but-expected Wes. He doesn't fit Macy's life at all--so why does she feel so comfortable with him? So ... happy? What is it about him that makes her let down her guard and finally talk about how much she misses her father, who died before her eyes the year before?
