Question:
Has Anybody Got Any Story Ideas?
2012-01-21 06:05:11 UTC
Please, before writing an answer, read this.
If anybody is going to tell me to look around, and think up ideas, please just delete those comments, because they never help me.I'm just writing for fun, so if anybody has any ideas, at all, for a story, please share them, even if it is a rough plot. I am on Wattpad, if anybody else is on Wattpad, please PM me, so we can talk there about story ideas. But, if not on Wattpad, please just leave your fantastic ideas below.
Thanks, Brontey.

Music,

Think about things you like and then create a antagonist that plans on taking them away. Then you create a character who fights to keep things the way they are. Remember, you will be ALL the characters and plot, say, do, whatever YOU would do. It's clear from what I see in your name that you like music. There you have it. Maybe the character is in a band and is about to be replaced... See?

Hi,

if you already have loads of ideas but just have trouble putting it down in words, I can help you there, it happens to me all the time, most writers have a time when they can't think of anything to write down. What you need is some organization. See if this will help you:

1) Try making a monster story board (a really, really big one that includes not just the main plot, but the characters and their back story, what happened before the point where you are starting the book, and what happens after the 'The End') The more you obsess about your story, the more excited you will be to write it. You'll be amazed by all of the things your own brain concocts.

2) Have a voice recorder? Just talk into a recorder about your story, let your ideas out of your head and when you play it back, who knows, you may hear: an awesome line that you may want to put into a story, something that could be molded into the opening paragraph of another, etc. And whenever you start to lose concentration, just play back the tape, or look at the story board if that's something you think you'd like to try.

3)Lastly, you could just write. That may sound stupid since you said that's what you're having trouble with, but I'm serious. Sometimes, if you just write anything, even if you're thinking "This sounds so dumb," you might get to a point where you are like, "Hey, that actually sounds good, and maybe now this can happen, and here's where I can bring in this idea or this character." It's what I do sometimes and it hasn't failed me so far.

Hope this helps. :)

Do you even realize how contradictory all those sentences you've written sound ? Take some time and re-read your information below, if you please. I'm sure it will crack you up.

First of all, you my friend are here to receive some honest opinions from people you don't even know or heard of. So, why do you even bother to exclude the fact that one of us will, obviously, tell you a way to "come up with ideas on your own?" (which is the way things should be done, if you want my opinion). One of these ways is looking around, getting inspired, things all writers - pardon me, all "truly creative" writers - do.

You have a Wattpad account - so what ? Does this make you more of a talented person than the rest of us ?

Then again, you claim to be writing for pure fun. If that's the case, then future publication is not even an option for the time being, right ? If we take into consideration that writing is NOT your source of income, then it is just an innocent hobby like all the other hobbies that you might as well have, then why can't you sit down and think of a plot ? Is this, by any means, rude ? I call it a straight-forward truth. You enjoy writing, still you want others to post a story idea for you, in a site like this ?

Secondly (and this made my whole day for real) you also claim to be "creative" and you even have the ambition of becoming an author - which means you also seek publication. Well, I'd love to see you getting past a single chapter if you don't even know how to come up with your own ideas.

And why do you even confuse putting ideas on paper with coming up with those ideas ? This is a completely different thing. Coming up with a plot is irrelevant to the fact that you face difficulties when writing these ideas on a piece of paper (or in your computer). Someone can come up with a concept without necessarily being a good writer - or a writer at all.

Then you also say that you "think up plenty of ideas" ....

My question remains whatsoever : Why do you want us to ....share our own ideas with you ? What's the point of it ? By what I've just read, you let me have a clear picture of someone who's just procrastinating and "would love to have a story written" rather than "write a story" ....

Let's see what other people think of my answer.

Am I being honest or rude ?

Thumbs up and thumps down will be the judge of that-either way, I feel vindicated ....

Ok, well, you should really think of your own ideas, but this might help.

Pick a mood for your story, if the mood is light and cheerful, pick a bright sunny place to jot down ideas.

If the mood is dark, like a horror or suspense story, wait until it's dark, preferably raining, and write down characters and settings.

For characters, decide on your protagonist. Is it a boy or girl? How old? What do they look like?

Decide on a setting and a plot, which may be harder. If it's a horror/suspense genre, then turn up the scary by making the character alone in a large area, or among many people he/she doesn't trust.

Example segment,

"I pushed open the heavy glass door and entered the bar, and was immeadiantly met with the smell of cheap alcohol. A group of shadowy men, much older than I, leered across the filthy counter at me. "Looking for someone, Sugar?" one of them called, obviously drunk. I shook my head a little too quickly and they all gruffawed, their hands seemingly glued to their drinks."

Obviously, the main character is a girl, and obviously, she feels out of place and anxious to leave the setting.

i think you should stick with something simple, an easy conflict. A boy/girl is trying to find a sister or brother downtown. The sibling has told them where to meet, but didn't show up. The protagonist serches all the usual hangouts, their worry increasing. Where do they go, who do they meet, where was the sibling all along?

Depending on the character's personality, you can change this up and create your own story.

I hope this helps! Happy writing!!!!!!

I have nothing to add that hasn't already been said on that matter. You need to train yourself to focus and come up with your own ideas if you ever want to train your writing skill. If you can't think of anything, try non-fiction, turn an event from your life into a story or write characters into a historical event that you found interesting.

I really wanted to suggest another website:

http://www.writing.com/

The great thing about this website is that it gives you an email account that you can request new letters with all kinds of great tips based on what you're interested in, you can join groups with other writers, take part in interactive stories (collective community story writing), but, the reason I suggested it, they have contests. There's no real cash value prizes, but they have prompts and guidelines that I've found helpful when I'm stuck for an idea.

Anyway, sorry I won't give you any ideas, you need to do that yourself, if you have an idea in mind that you need some tips or pointers to get you started I would be more than happy to help with that but no one can complete that first step for you. The only reason to write is because you have a story to tell, if you just want practice join writing.com and join an interactive story. Best of luck.

I understand what you have said in the additional details, but you should of asked that, not asked for a story idea as the story is your job. This can help;

1) Come up with what you like. What type of story interests you and build a basic idea

2) Come up with characters that are likable and make them interesting.

3) Build events around the characters and continue until you have a whole plot suitable. Do this till your happy.

4) Plan a basic plan of what happens and when and what chapter You may break this later on but as long as you have a good idea.

5) Start writing. Your mind may still be developing further ideas so feel free to go back and edit.

6) Go back after completion and make changes.

This is a way to make a GOOD story. It requires effort so i hope your good at commitment. Thats what it takes to do it properly. That's why its important for it to be your idea. Good luck

You will never be an author with no creativity. It's part of the job description, as is writing. If you can't "put pen to paper," you cannot write.

To answer your question though: yes, I have many ideas. I will not give you any of them to butcher.

Don't post your questions on the internet if you do not want honest answers.

I have some awesome story ideas. Really good ones that are fairly unique.

I am going to use these stories to craft my own work instead of handing them off to someone else.

If you want ideas but can't develop them then chances are good you need something to read, not something to write.

Since you love music, why not write a story where music is magic. Three of my favorite fantasy series included music as magic: The Spellsong Cycle by L. E. Modesitt, Bardic Voices by Mercedes Lackey, and the Shannara series by Terry Brooks.

Try this idea I would never actually use.

1) Fourteen year old Erin Valdez wakes up and finds herself strapped to an iron bed. she was kidnapped from her hometown, along with more kids around her age. now they must escape...

There's plenty of idea's for stories out there. Let's see...

Fallen Angels.

Fairies.

Shape-shifters.

Human.

Vampires.

Demons.

Or you could use your imagination and think of something no one's ever heard of.

As for types of stories..

Romance.

Horror.

Adventure.

History.

Like I said there's millions to go on. Good luck and I hoped I helped. ;)

Okay, if your going to write, even for fun if you have to come up with your own ideas. Because, you're going to find it difficult to write a story with someone else's idea. But I have one you can use...

Etta Carlisle has always been the adventurous type. She loves to stick her nose in places it shouldn't be. Because of this, she over hears her father and a client talking in his office. She over hears something she shouldn't have heard, and now she's running. She's running away from her father the only parent she's over known out of fear. What did Etta hear from the office that day? Is her life in danger? Will her Father find her?

Yes, I have plenty of story ideas.

However, I'm not going to give them away to lazy people who think that they don't have to do any of the work when it comes to writing.

How does it help you if you don't have to be creative? If you don't have a story you want to tell, don't wirte one.

A guy loves reading books and craves for a mystery.

All of a sudden, he finds himself inside his fav. book. Your story is about how exited he is at 1st and what he experiences. He goes on to help the real characters of the book.....

And then he understands that he is trapped in the book for some reason. He wants to get out, but he is unable to...

Take it from there

If you're happy plagiarising others ideas just go to your nearest bookshop and copy one of their stories. It's the same thing.

I agree with the people that say that if you don't have an idea then don't write.
