There isn't really any good websites (that i have found) that have free e-book downloads directly. If you are computer fluent I advise you get a torrent downloader, such as "utorrent". I get most of my e-books and all my solution manuals off several torrent hosting sites.
Torrents are basically a special way to download files; it downloads fragments rather then a straight sequence of data. The downloader is free, the torrents are free, viruses are possible but VERY avoidable just like any downloader.
There are several hundred torrent host sites that have tons of books, there has only been approximately 3 out of 30 books that i couldn't find that i needed. Just don't do anything stupid like subscribe to a site baceause it says they have your book and you'll be laughing.

here's the url if you want to take this route.

For a legal website go to http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page
This is under U.S.A. copyright law so if you live outside of the U.S.A. you need to check your own country's copyright laws. As for illegal downloads, this is not recommended because several illegal sites give your computer trojan horses and various other viruses. Plus you can be tracked to your home address and prosecuted.
Note:
DO NOT USE A TORRENT!
This can use your computer to "share" the content and will lead to you getting into alot of trouble. You will be accused of distributing copyrighted material and this is a much greater crime than just illegally downloading content.
I have heard of several cases in the U.K. of people caught out by this. They are sent a letter from lawyers of the copyright holder demanding payment of 1,000s of pounds.
If they refuse they are taken to court.
You think you are poor now. What about a bill for £6,000?
How would you pay that?
