Where to purchase non-restrictive ebooks?

I had a collection of ebooks I was given in PDF that I could simply open up on my PC using Adobe Reader, no strings attached.

Then I went to buy some more from various online retailers such as Itunes & Amazon, but upon purchasing them Amazon required that I have an Amazon Kindle E-Reader to view them, or proprietary software of theirs to read them on my PC.

I just want to be able to purchase ebooks that aren't restrictive in any way, so I can drag and drop them onto my sister's laptop -- as she has no internet connected to her laptop -- /

So I need a place that supplies book that aren't restrictive and require additional software to be read. Thanks!

Try OBOOKO (http://www.obooko.com/) all ebooks on their site are legal and DRM free (unrestricted) so they'll work on any device.

all amazon ebooks are either azw/azw8 and can only be read on a kindle or a kindle app.

to get only pdf fomats of books, try bookstore websites. however, even most of those nowdays only provide epub format, but some still do. try your luck. if all else fails, download the epubs from bookstore websites and use an online service to convert them to pdfs (note that generally books bought from amazon/itunes cant be converted unless they were $0.0)

Most big eBook stores sell books with DRM protections.Fortunately, there are several stores sell non-DRMed books, like Tor, O'Reilly and some others.

Hope that you could find the books you need from those stores.
