How do you get a book of Poetry published?

I'm 14 and I've written about 150 poems this year and narrowed it down to about 90 I want to get published in a book. I've showed some to my friends and they really like them. Also I know that I write in an interesting way that I'm pretty sure no ones seen before. I feel that I need to get my poetry out there because its not just a bunch of random poems I worked crazy hard to write. No this all came natural to me and there's a story each one of them can tell.So, How do I find an agent? would I have to pay them? Do I need a query letter? How do I write a query for poetry? Websites would be helpful. Or suggestion for a literary agent that takes poetry would be even better. Or just what do I need to do in general to get my poetry out there? Really any HELP you can give would be nice!

p.s I have no experience of poetry contests or magazines just my friends who've read it and think its good. Not just good though, really good.

Take your friends opinions with a grain of salt. They have no experience in the type of standards publishers have for poems and books. The standards are higher than what most people think. No publisher is going to publish a book by an unknown poet. Poetry isn't selling well, so that's why. Get your name out there by submitting your poems to magazines. Once you've had a few poems published in professional mags, you'll have a better chance of getting a publisher to publish a book of your poetry. Same with short-stories.



Forget contest. They don't matter unless they're prestigious and most people have heard of them. Most "contests" don't fit the bill. Try duotrope.com. It has a list of mags. Only consider professional, paying mags. They are the ones you can use as a publishing credit. No one cares about non-paying, obscure mags.
