What exactly is a midnight release party?

I know this is a really stupid question, but what is a midnight release party? I'm going to the Brisingr one this Friday (omg, so excited!!!!), and my mom says that she doesn't want to stay up until midnight and stay there, but I'm pretty sure you get the book at midnight. Is that true?

Well you go to the bookstore (make sure you get there nice and early) and wait in a big long line for a really long time. It is a lot of fun because you get to meet other people that like the same thing. You get your book sometime after midnight depending on how far back in line you are. Your mom doesn't have to stay with you usually so she can probably just pick you up. At some of these things they have fun stuff to while waiting, but it all depends. Either way, somebody usually dresses up and starts reenacting scenes...or there are always books to be read. Having a reserved copy just secures you a better spot in line. You do still have to wait until after midnight though.

A Midnight Release party is a party the day before a book comes out that begins usually at 9pm and goes through midnight until everyone in the store can purchase the item everyone's been waiting for (books, movies, video games).



If a book comes out Saturday, then the Midnight Release Party is Friday evening. The book goes on *sale* at midnight. That does not mean you will be able to purchase your book then, just that it will begin selling to the people waiting in line at the registers. You may not get your chance to buy it until 1am. That is most likely what your mother is worried about.

In the event of a highly anticipated release they will stay open so they can begin selling the new product exactly at midnight. This generates some excitement and there is the possibility that the product will be sold out before the next day's opening. There will be a party at a store that probably has things based on the theme of the book and if you have reserved a copy they will start handing them out a midnight. Expect to be there very late if you don't have one reserved and even if you do, it might take awhile for them to get you your copy. Have fun!

Yes, you do get the book there. Usually, people dress up as characters, some bookstores/malls have lots of booths and games that relate to the book. The bookstore then has copies to buy at midnight. Make sure you're up close to get one, that way you can for sure get a copy, and don't have to wait in the checkout line for very long. Because trust me - it can take FOREVER.

yes you do. you usually all go into the book store (if it's big) or wait outside it (if it's small) for midnight, and you all count down. then you get to go up and purchase your new copy of the book! i went for harry potter 5!!! it was really fun...
