I like the same kind of books and I love Laurell K Hamilton for her vampire slayer novels. Some are definitely more twisted than others but I truly enjoy them all. A good way to find new authors is to do a search on Amazon on vampires &/or witches and read what others say about good books (and even read some excerpts if you want.) Hope that helps.

I liked Silver Kiss, too (like Bubble_B), but it was kind of Anne Rice lite. It's generally considered a "Young Adult" book.
Although it isn't about vampires, I think you might like Mists of Avalon. It's mostly about pagan priestesses in prehistoric, pre-Roman Britain. Oh yeah, and some dude named King Arthur.
It has a similar romantic feel (and I don't mean that in the love story sense), is believably historical, and a strong literary style. I loved it.

have you read Bram Stoker's Dracula? Its a classic and the ultimate vampire book.
