In the movie Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Harry looks at one of Dumbledore's memories of Tom Riddle. In the memory, Dumbledore's meets Tom and askes him to come to Hogwarts. When he walks into his room, it shows some odd objects. There are broken eggshells lined up on his windowsill, and a picture of the location of the locket (one of the horcruxes) in the doorknob. What do these object mean and why does Tom keep them? Thanks!

The cave and (at the time) the beach was where Riddle use to go on vacation when he was a kid..he hated wools orphanage and the cave was one of his favorite places, so he kept the picture...the shells were likely shells he took from the cave.

that is how Dumbledore knew the locket was there, because the cave was important to him.

but yeah, the cave was where he went on vacation as a kid!!

There were 7 of them I believe. Probably just some Hollywood foreshadowing of the 7 horecruxes.

I don't know about the egg shells (they may have been baby birds that he killed, but in the book, his murdering of animals was more of a guess (he killed a rabbit by slicing its throat) by Mrs. Cole (the owner). The picture may have been of a place where they visited and to remind Riddle about where he tortured (presumably) two other orphans. However, since none of this is brought up in the movie, the picture may have been just to show the cave's importance to Tom Riddle's life.
