Can anyone recommend some good fiction books?

I'm currently reading the book The Magicians by Lev Grossman, and it's AWESOME, but I'm almost finished and need something new to read. I would prefer something set in modern day, nothing too WOW-ish, but still leaning toward fantasy, or even horror. And yes, I have already read the Harry Potters and Dark Towers, and I'm not interested in anything too childish like the Narnia books. I tried to read A Game of Thrones, but that was way too D&D for my liking, I stopped reading after about 12 pages.

If you like fantasy/horror I would highly recommend Neil Gaiman, especially the Sandman Series. It's a graphic novel series and the main character is Dream (a anthropomorphic personification) and it takes us through Earth, the realm of Dreams, and Hell. It's an amazing series and I would highly recommend it. It starts off more like horror but it moves to fantasy as the series progresses.

Smoke and Mirrors are a collection of short stories and American Gods is a novel, both by Neil Gaiman.



Have you tried reading Lovecraft? I haven't but it sounds like you would like him from what I've heard about him.

Hmmm... You may like the Sandman Slim series by Richard Kadrey. The first book in the series is Sandman Slim:
