NaNoWriMo anyone? Opinions? Is it good/bad? are you participating? what's your favorite part in the event? any advice? And most importantly: is it fun?

I love NaNoWriMo. I am an avid participant so I think very highly of it. I definitely will be participating next month. In my bias opinion it's great, but I know it doesn't work for everyone. If you are someone who works well with a deadline and a daily/monthly goal, it's definitely worth trying out.
I have two favorite parts. One being the community. I love the forums there. The people are really friendly and easy to talk to. We all have something in common since we're all united under the goal of writing a novel in a month. And there are so many threads and topics about everything. My other favorite part is that it gets me writing every day. I love having a word count goal to achieve. It definitely keeps me motivated.
My advice would be to strive to write every day. Even if you don't meet your word count goal for the day, something is better than nothing. And on great days, write as much as you can because then on bad days you won't fall behind. In my experience it's always a little more fun to be a bit ahead rather than a bit behind, Other advice would be to spend time in the forums if you're into the social aspect. It makes the experience more fun.
And yes, it is definitely fun.

It is fun, especially if you're one of those people who works best when aiming for a target.
Sometimes I get complacent with writing and might not do as much as I like. NaNoWriMo gives me that motivation to get going again and really try. I'm participating this year, but since I'm doing a lot of 9-6 shifts at work I haven't got much hope for finishing!

I just heard of it these last few months and am going to attempt a slightly different version of it. I don't have anyone I know to participate as no one else wants to write a book. Plus, I have never actually written more than the first couple of chapters so I'm not exactly experienced. But, i do want to do it one day.

It gives you a target and a deadline. It makes you write. After writing, I can publish it online for free on site like Wattpad and Penana. It makes me feel good.
