America is the land of Free Speech. Therefore he had every right to express his opinion on the matter.

Now, if I am not mistaken, he has some very well written books that have been around for a long time. I believe he had every right to say what he said.

Stephenie Meyer: oh look, I can't find any. Well looks like we found out who the better author is.

First of all, he does have a right to free speech, second, if anyone has the right to judge another writer, then it's a master writer, and Stephen King is just that. Also, have you read Twilight? He's completely right!

And the Twihards can say all they want about how jealous Stephen King is, but the fact of the matter is, he was comparing two authors and if he was going to be jealous of someone it would have been JK Rowling (whom Stephen King has admitted to being a fan of). Stephen King, however, is not. Why? Because unlike Stephanie Meyer, his place in the halls of great literature is secure.

The only way Twilight would get in the same hall of great literature as any of King's or Rowling's work would be if said hall of great literature needed toilet paper.

I agree. Stephen King has a 100% right to give his opinion. And his opinion is correct. He's been writing since she was a child. There are few people out there (who are still alive) that know writing as well as Stephen King. He's a genius and a master of the pen. She's a flop. A poor excuse for an artist who got lucky because vampires just so happen to be in high demand right now.

The thing is she cannot write. She's a worse writer than Kimberly Pauley.

Absolutely. Speaking the truth is usually justified. Especially for an amazing author like Stephen King.

I too have been waiting for her reaction yet have not study something as yet the two. i could say she's possibly omitted the remark. What could desire to she say to somebody of the calibre of Stephen King who has had a great number of of his books became into very valuable video clips? His record speaks for itself.
2009-07-05 17:28:08 UTC
Well, King's an American. In America, we have the First Amendment. That says that he has every right to say that Meyer's writing's terrible. Unfortuneatly it's this same amendment that lets her publish books.

Free speech is a terrible, terrible burden sometimes.

I think that Stephen King is arrogant. But I also believe that Stephenie Meyer is an overrated author; she does not have a whole lot of experience.

Stephen King has had his day in the sun, and is now a wrung-out sponge that is envious of another writer's instant success. Stephanie Meyer (though not yet very good) with time, will undoubtedly refine her writing skills.

In the end, it does not matter one bit what Mr. King thinks of Mrs. Meyer's writing, because she is laughing her *** off all the way to the bank.

Of course he has the right to bash on meyer. She isn't the worlds best writer; she isn't even good. The freedom of speech is as it says; the freedom to say anything about whoever. You can't blame him for putting his views across; he's a best seller and knows what he talks about. I totally agree with what he said.

I agree with King.

LOL at all the Twilight fangirls who say that he doesn't have the right to say that.
2009-07-06 17:37:03 UTC
yes he does. He is completely right. I mean i own all 4 books, but i read that quote and think, so right, i mean, its "omg! your hand it cold!" kinda lame. Good fiction book but it a death circle, it only became more popular because it got more popular

I've never read any of Stephanie Meyer's stuff,am sick of hearing about Twilight and am a fan of Stephen King's work, but I think he was out of line. Yes,he has the right to state his opinion and we can all agree or disagree, but enough people like Meyer's work so that she deserves some respect as a writer. It was kind of petty for him to say that publicly.

That's our most basic freedom in the US, the right to disagree. As long as he keeps his opinion focused on what he doesn't like about her writing, and doesn't make personal attacks on her character, he can say what he likes.
2009-07-05 17:26:26 UTC
Of course; it's his opinion and American's are allowed the freedom of speech. Plus, he's completely right.

Not only is it his right as a person to share his opinion, but its completely true, and made me laugh so hard I fell out of my chair.

Someone needed to say it.
2009-07-05 17:23:25 UTC
Yeah, since they are both american don't they have the right to freedom of speech?? and he's also totally right about stepehenie meyer's writing, she can't write to save her life.

Of course he has the right! Hes allowed to have his own opinions, correct?
2009-07-05 17:23:10 UTC
This has been discussed several times already. The news story is dead now. Let it go.
2009-07-05 17:21:55 UTC
yea Absolutely agree with him for his statement that is true she can't write i mean people wouldn't be hateing on the twilight series this much if it weren't true

I think he had the right to say that outloud, but it was very petty of him to diss another writer like that.

I would say Yes and No...Yes, because like any person, King has the right to his own opinion...No, because if he stated his opinions as facts, then that is ethically wrong, and it only shows that he has a massive ego.

Stephenie Meyer is an excellent writer, and I'm just saying that cause I like these books.
