I am currently in eighth grade, and my lexile range is from 1600 to 1700. My Reading teacher wants her students to read books on our lexile. Though, I find this difficult due to the fact that there are no books in my lexile range at my school library. So, I have resolved to ordering books on my lexile, but I am not sure what to order. I want to the website for lexile finder, but the descriptions for the books are vague. As well, a majority of books I the listing are around or above 400 dollars. Any recommendations would be appreciated. thank you.

Very little fiction is written at the 1600-1700 lexile level, and I can't believe your reading teacher wants you to read college-level non-fiction textbooks, or doctoral dissertations. Perhaps the teacher would be satisfied with you reading classic literature from many cultures, even though it is not written at the 1600 lexile level. I suggest you talk to your teacher about what is actually expected, and ask what they would recommend.

You don't need to buy books, you can borrow books from a public library. If you have access to a computer or e-reader, you can borrow ebooks from most public library systems (if you have a library card).

I have no idea what a score of 1600 means. I even had to look up "lexile". But since everything changes while remaining the same, I'm not surprised they came up with a new, fancy sounding name for "reading level". Wiki's description of "lexile" is not encouraging. It appears very subjective and leaves some of the best known classics with low scores.

But why on Earth are books costing $400?!?! Find a genre you like and do a search on Amazon for those types of books. There's no reason to pay that kind of money.
