Hi! So as I said in the title I'm 15, and my passion is writing. I've been thinking about making some kind of writing account on Instagram where I can show people my work, but the problem is I'm not very creative when it comes to coming up with my own ideas, and I find it easier when I either write something short if I have my own idea or when people commison me to write something for them. I did fanfiction commissions on an app called 'amino' a while back which was a fun, but really hard work as well. On amino I just got payed with coins in the game, but I would like to get actual money if I start a writing business or do writing commissions for people.

I'm a sophomore in high school right now, so I don't know if I'll have the time to start a writing website or do commissions even if I wanted to. I saw a video where some teens raised money with tooth brushes because they started their own business which I thought it was cool, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to do that or handle that amount of responsibility. Advice?

Someone might steal your work. Don't do it.

You have to come up with ideas.

Yes, but who would hire you and why?

There are thousands of PUBLISHED writers who are out looking for a job. Why should customers come to you?

You need to solve THAT problem first.

yes.

the public library has a number of books to help writers in any phase of their work, from writing to publishing.

Can you? Sure.

But you're only 15. It is not likely anyone will hire you for freelance writing gigs because you are a minor and because you lack experience.

This part bothered me:

"I don't know if I'll have the time to start a writing website or do commissions even if I wanted to."

If you can't even make the time to create a professional website (Instagram does NOT count) then what makes you think you can get a job done when a client needs it? Freelance writing is not something you do just for giggles. It's a job and it requires you to take it seriously as a professional. Half-a**ing it will get you into trouble.

My advice? Focus on getting a part-time job at a brick and mortar place for now. When you're older and have experience (passion is only one part of the equation and it doesn't mean squat when you're being paid to do a job) then consider taking on freelance writing jobs.
