Is Watership Down a good book for an 11-year-old?

I'm very bad at estimating reading levels for young people, though I do remember liking many young-adult and adult books when I was younger. Though I may not understand all the concepts, I was able to read and re-read those books as I aged and could grasp deeper meanings in the text. Could Watership Down be one of those books to come back to in years to come for a child? Or is it plain too old for an 11-year-old reader?

that depends entirely on the reader some 11 year olds read on an 8 year old level and some n a 15 yer old level Watership Down is a wonderful book and needs to be discussed after it is read as it was a parable for the Nazi invasion of Germany's neighbors told by Adams to his children ... let them read it and help them with it if mnecessary by reading an occasional chapter then talk about it to them it will stick with them the rest of their lives and they will mostly have their kids read it also. great choice of a book for them what a cool parent to be that concerned about what their child reads thanks for that from a former professor

Watership Down is a deep and interesting book. The story and characters are compelling, and it is indeed a book you can come back to and get new meanings from each time you read it. The author doesn't hide or disguise some of the more unpleasant sides of life, for example a lot of the little bunnies die violently. He is also pretty frank about their motives: they do things for survival; they fight, they look for females, they hide from or attack predators. I think if the child has read Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings, he/she will have no trouble with Watership Down.

I read Watership Down in English at age 11, so I'd say yeah. The 11 year old might be bored or whatever, but they should be able to understand it all. And, hence the having read it in English, there's nothing innapropriate in it, if that's what you're asking.

great question! I agree with Doc...its too bad more parents aren't concerned with their childrens reading material. Watership Down is exactly as you described your own reading habits. It is, on the surface, a goodl tale for children. It is also a book with layers like an onion! I have read it many times since I first read it at 12, and found each reading more meaningful than the last. Absolutely, give it to your child!

Great book, of course it depends on the reading level of the child more than their age. Some 7-8 years undoubtedly enjoy it while some high schoolers may have difficulty. It also depends if it is a subject of interest to the child.

It's possible to invest plenty of time and money searching for ways to show your children how to read and improve their examining skills. Is difficult to show a small kid how to see, and even alluring them to read is challenging in itself. Nonetheless it does not have to be this way when you got the aid of the program https://tr.im/Wit6w , Children Learning Reading program.

With Children Learning Reading you can train your youngster how to separate your lives appears and break words in to phonemes, a vital point as soon as your child is simply learning how to spell.

The studying process from Children Learning Reading program makes it easy for children to learn rapidly and effectively, from simple phrases to sentences till they learn to learn stories.
