Question:
Books like Harry Potter, or more books by J.K. Rowling?

Hey I just recently finished reading the Harry Potter series for the first time. Does anyone know any authors similar to J.K. Rowling? Or more importantly, does anyone know any books like Harry Potter which are fantasy orientated, but aren't childish. Childish I mean like The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe! But I love C.S. Lewis =]

Thanks everybody!

This is my first ever ASK, thankyou! =]

Try "His Dark Materials" by Philip Pullman. It's a trilogy and the first book just came out as a movie, "The Golden Compass". I've read all three and I'd compare these books to Harry Potter meets Lord of the Rings.

1. "The Golden Compass"

2. "The Subtle Knife"

3. "The Amber Spyglass"

I really enjoyed these books, and although there's been controversy about the religious undertones. In any case, give them a shot.

;)

Cheers!

Okay...I have just read this book and trust me...it is like the Harry Potter series. It is called "The Eyes of the Dragon" by Stephen King. I know it doesn't sound like something Stephen King would write but it isn't like any of his other novels. It is actually a fantasy novel. And it seems to have been written at a younger level due to the language...it is very simple. Trust me...you won't be disappointed. It is a very good book!

EDIT: It is an adult book although it doesn't seem like it...Harry potter was a kids book. If you liked Harry potter you will love this!!!

'The Tales of Beedle the Bard' by J.K Rowlingis going to be released on December 4th! I can't wait! I have also heard that Rowling is working on an adult and children's books that she will publish some time! Look out for those. In the meant time, you might like Lord of the Rings if you liked HP...but nothing is really as good as Harry Potter! :)

First, tales of beetle the bard by J.K is coming out on Dec 4

I can agree with most of the other opinions up there, though I'm sorry to say that I wasn't too thrilled with how long Artemis Fowl became. It just drags on. Leven Thumps is good, but a couple different series is, 13th Reality by James Dashner, Companions by Julia Golding, Eragon by Christopher Paolini, Fire Within by Chris D'Lacey and my favorite series that is still being written right now is Fablehaven by Brandon Mull. About a preserve full of magical creatures. It may sound a bit lame, but I would rate it right up there with Harry Potter and Twilight. I've even heard of people of every age reading it, someone's grandma bought it for them as a birthday gift and just to make sure that the book was alright she started reading it and ended up buying the next two books and getting another copy of the first one for herself.

Well, my first thought is Narnia by C.S. Lewis, but you think that is childish.

I can not agree at all but oh well

Have you read Eragon yet? This is book 1 of 3 written by Christopher Paolini. The last one is out now

Or if you like Fantasy, try the DiscWorld series by Terry Pratchett.

His stories are Unique to say the least.

There are other C.S. Lewis books that are geared towards the adults, and older kids. Try "Out of the Silent Planet" it a wonderful book, also "The Great Divorce" is amazing too. I am very into dystopian books, and in their own weird way, they are about different realities. I like 1984, and Brave New World. They are a bit more upper level though

A Great and Terrible Beauty is a wonderful series if you liked Harry Potter. I would also suggest the Tithe series by Holly Black.

The first six books in the Dragon Lance series are awesome (not exactly the same as Harry but still fantasy)

Myst (is also a video game). About a family able to create their own worlds via mystical writing tablets. The Perambulator about a mystical musical (sort of) instrument used to combat evil in a fantastical world.

More Adult, go for the classic, Dune!

My son has just moved on to a series called Leven Thumps and is TOTALLY into it. And there's a series that features a character called Percy something...let me see what I can find for you.

Here you go...Percy Jackson and the Olympians. http://browse.barnesandnoble.com/browse/nav.asp?N=2147416855&NE=2147416855&VISGRP=nonfiction&Ns=SERIES_NUMBER

He also likes the Lord of the Rings books, the King Arthur legends, Don Quixote and Robin Hood. Not QUITE the same thing, but those are the sorts of books he goes for.

I would definitely recommend the "His Dark Materials" series and the "Lord of the Rings" Trilogy if you haven't already read them.

Also, J.K. Rowling's "Beetle the Bard" (from "Deathly Hallows") is being released on December 4th.

Well, I have heard that Twilight is a good series people keep comparing it to Harry Potter. Try that. BTW-the reason you can't rate is that you don't have enough points.
