Question about Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire?

(SPOILER ALERT)

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Barty Crouch Jr. puts Harry's name in the goblet and helps him win so that he will reach the cup, which is a portkey that will take him far away from the protection of Hogwarts. My question is: if Crouch was in the school disguised as Harry's professor, why couldn't he have turned any object into a portkey that would transport Harry to Voldemort - a book, a quill, anything? (Portkeys can definitely work on the Hogwarts grounds because Dumbledore conjures one in the fifth book.) Why was it necessary to put harry through the tournament just to reach a portkey?

Firstly, your point about Dumbledore conjuring a Portkey on Hogwarts grounds is irrelevant, as Dumbledore is the Headmaster of Hogwarts and so possibly would have exceptions from some of the wards.

I think there are 2 possible reasons for Crouch to put the Portkey in the 3rd task.

1. Voldemort was a dramatist. By abducting Harry during the finale ofthe Tournament, by whisking the person who saved the Wizarding world 13 years previously from underneath the noses of both the Ministry and Dumbledore, would have been a major pyschological boost for Voldemort. It would also have enhanced the drama for Voldemort.

Voldemort would have a penchant from dramatic scenes like this. In the first book. Voldemort decides to attack Harry on Halloween, a day associated with evil and terror. In the 7th book. after Voldemort though Harry was dead, he forces Hagrid to carry Harry on his back. He didn't jsut reip his body to shreds or anything.

This is also given further credence by the fact that Voldemort doesn't take any random wizard or witch off the street and use them to come back to life; an infinitely easier task than trying to take Harry from Hogwarts. No he wants Harry to add that special touch of drama.

2. In order to allow the 3rd task to happen, Dumbledore would have had to take certain enchantments off the Quidditch grounds, thus allowing Crouch to create a Portkey

There are no magical ways to transport in or out of Hogwarts. Otherwise Voldetmort would have been able to do come in and out of the school as he pleased. I suspect that certain enchantments were removed during the final task for the purpose of the game enabling Crouch to turn the trophy to a portkey.

Dumbledore possessed the Elder won which would have allowed him to transport Harry and the Weasleys.

It would be easier for Voldemort to wreak havoc on the wizarding world if nobody knew he was back. One of the key points in his plan was that he wanted to return without any witnesses except his Death Eaters. If he made the Triwizard Cup a portkey, Harry would be transported to the graveyard, Voldemort would return and kill Harry, and Harry's corpse would be sent back with the Cup, making it look as if he died in the maze. This way, Voldemort could infiltrate the Ministry with his Death Eaters without anyone knowing he had returned. Harry ruined this plan by surviving, however, and he was able to tell everyone Voldemort was back. This didn't do a great deal of good, however, as nobody in the Ministry wanted to believe it.

Some one would notice, and Dumbledore watched Harry very closely. Also Voldemort wanted to make a dramatic apperence back into the world to show how powerful he was.

No no no. HRH Ms Rowling has said so countless of times. Plus, the last book nicely wrapped and ribboned up the story. I get you though. I was much too young when the series first came out to be involved in the whole fandom and craziness of HP and I'm really bummed by that. But don't worry, I don't think the real HP faze will ever go away. Kinda like LOTR, but HP is better because LOTR needed the movies for most of its fans to get hooked to it.

Simply put, someone would notice. Harry could have died and been transported back, and nobody would have known what had happened, as there would have been no witnesses to Voldemort's return. Also, there was the chance of someone else taking the random object you suggested.

Dumbledore was watching Harry closely.

He also had to wait for Voldemort to be ready in the graveyard for him.

Additionally, how good would the story be otherwise? Come on.

Hey,

I think its because Voldemort wanted to wait until that potion (or whatever it was he needed Harry's blood for) was ready, That, and I think that if Rowling had written it that way, there would be no book. ;)

That's question to ask JK Rowling. I think it's just to make the story longer or else it would have ended early and we would not have gotten the Tri- Wizard Tournament.

To make it more epic and public
