Okay, so I have heard a lot about Vampire Diaries. I might have seen the tv show once or twice. I am a big fan of fiction books and so, I am planning to read it. But I have some questions about the series as a whole.

The following are my questions:
1. How many books does this series consist of?
2. Do they have different names or do they just go like 1, 2, etc?
3. Is each television season of the series based on the respective number of book? As in, is book 1 shown as season 1, book 2 as season 2 and so on?
4. Did you like the books?
5. Did you like the tv show?

If there is anything else about the series that you would like me to know then please mention it. And you may also suggest other fiction series that you think might be an interesting read. Please don't mention Harry Potter series or Twilight series because I have already finished reading them.

Thanking you in advance. :)

I love the series so much! Okay, here we go :)

1) It depends whether you want to include the ones that haven't been released yet. If you do, then there are 10 books; 3 of them haven't been released yet. They follow one after the other pretty accurately.

2) They all have different names so it sometimes is confusing. Also, each book is part of a smaller saga:

The Originals:

* The Awakening

* The Struggle

* The Fury

* Dark Reunion

The Return:

* Nightfall

* Shadow Souls

* Midnight

The Hunters (Haven't been released yet)

* Phantom

* Moonsong

* Eternity

3) The television series is completely different to the books. The only thing that they have in common are most of the main characters.... and that's about it! The plotline is completely different and it incorporates ALOT of characters never mentioned in the books. So know that by reading the books, it will not reveal anything about the television series.

However, if you want something related to the television series, I suggest you read the series named Stefan's Diaries. This series explains things not explained thoroughly enough in the television series. It goes back to the time that Damon and Stefan were turned and what followed. The series goes in this order:

#1 Origins

#2 Bloodlust

#3 The Craving

#4 The Ripper (not released yet)

#5 The Asylum (not released yet)

#6 (not released yet and unsure of name)

4) I loved the books. I read them first, then discovered there was a television series which was awesome.

5) I love the televsion series heaps. Its not the same as the books, but I suppose thats what makes it great; that its unpredictable. I highly recommend watching it.

Hmm, I think thats about it....

Oh, a series that i reccomend? THE HUNGER GAMES by Suzanne Collins. I just finished the last book of the series and it is my favourite book series of all time. (There are three books: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay.)

Hope that all helps! Phew, alot of info!

1. There are 7 books out at the moment. The first two you can buy as one book and the 3rd and 4th you can buy as one. The 8th book is released this month. The 9th and 10th do not have release dates yet but will likely be November 2012, or in 2013/14. There is also a series that goes off the main series. This is called "Stefan's diaries". There are 3 books in this and the 4th will be released on the 8th of November.

2. There are different names for every book in the series. The books are split into what you could call "sub series".

The first four are in "The Vampire Diaries"

The first is "The Awakening"

This is in the same book as the second which is "The Struggle"

The third is "The Fury" and is in the same book as "The Dark Reunion" which is the fourth.

The next "sub series" is "The Return". There are three books in it and all are separately bought as individual books.

The first is "The Return: Nightfall"

The second is "The Return: Shadow Souls"

The third is "The Return: Midnight"

In November the first book for the next "sub series" is released

The "sub series" will be called "The Hunters"

The first book will be "The Hunters: Phantom"

The next two will be "The Hunters: Moonsong" and "The Hunters: Eternity"

In "Stefan's Diaries" There is 3 books published, two more yet to be released that are named and one that is to be released but not named yet.

They are: 1. Origins

2.Bloodlust

3. The Craving

4. The Ripper

5. The Asylum

3.No the tv show does have similarities and a lot of the main characters are still in it but the story line is quite different. There are only one or two bits the same. In the books Elena has a little sister but in the show she has a teenager brother that is one year younger. She has two friends called Meredith and Bonnie in the books and an enemy who used to be her friend called Caroline. In the show there is no Meredith and Bonnie and Caroline are both her friends. Another difference is how Elena looks. This caused a lot of out cry from fans because the Nina Dobrev who plays Elena in the show looks nothing like Elena in the books. This makes no difference later on because she suits the role. There are other characters that swap around, appear or disappear in the creation of the tv show but that list is really big. "Stefan's Diaries" is based off of the tv show instead of the main series. It helps explain the beginning of Stefan, Damon and Katherine and how they got to where they are now.

4. I love the books. I think "The Return" sub series is my favourite because I think it is written a lot better than "The Vampire Diaries" sub series. This may be because she took at twelve year break between the two sub series so she may have improved or changed writing styles. Anyway I still love the series and have every book out.

5. I love the show as well. At first I thought it was going to be stupid because it didn't follow the books. But the show is good in it's own way. There are so many twists and turns in the plot, I am always eager for the next episode.

You should definitely read "The Hunger Games". It is by Suzanne Collins and is my favourite books series along with The Vampire Diaries. There are three books in the series: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay. I convinced all my friends to read it and they also love it. The movie for the first book is coming out in March.

There is the "Noughts and Crosses" series by Malorie Blackman. There are 4 books: Noughts and Crosses, Knife edge, Checkmate and Double Cross. Only one of my friends has read it and it is in my top 5 series.

Another is the "Tomorrow" series. It is by Australian author John Marsden. There are 7 books in the series: Tomorrow when the war begun (made into a movie), The dead of the night, The third day the frost, Darkness be my friend, Burning for revenge, The night is for hunting and The other side of dawn. Marsden also wrote what you could call and epilogue series made up of three books. It tells the story of the main character, Elle and what happened after the war. Top 5

James Patterson's "Maximum Ride". Fell in love with it 4 years ago and I am still reading it. There are seven books: Maximum Ride: The angel experiment, Maximum Ride: School;s out forever, Maximum Ride: Saving the world and other extreme sports, Maximum Ride:The final warning, Max, Fang, Angel.

Finally, Michael Grants "Gone" series. Another in my top 5. There are 4 books at the moment, one to be released and the final one to be completed. There is: Gone, Hunger, Lies, Plague. On April 3rd, 2012, "Fear" will be released. Michael Grant has posted 10 spoilers about it giving hints on what will happen. The final book will be called Light but that is all that is known.

All for today. My hands are tired

1. The 5th book will be coming out later this month.

2. The all do have different names.

3. No not at all, they are both very different.

4. LOVE

5. LOVE

6. My book suggestions are (I love this stuff too) The Sookie Stackhouse novels (true blood is based off of them there are 13 out), Eon is a very good book (not vampire though), Thirst which is probably one of my favorite and the most original vampire story I have ever read. Also I would recommend game of thrones (not vampire once again, but very good book)

P.S. Someone L.J. Smith stopped writing because of fan outrage, that is not true. She took a twelve year break to help her dying mother among other things and although the 5th book is coming out she only wrote part of it, the vampire diaries was not her original idea it was the book publishers and they just asked her to write it and the FIRED her now and the books will be written by someone else (a lot of people are really mad and suspect it was because she planned a different ending). I believe you can find this on her blog http://www.ljanesmith.net/www/blog

1) There's 4 books, but there was only supposed to be 3. because of the fan outrage at the ending of book three she wrote a 4th book to amend it.

2) No, the names are the same, but some characters aren't in it (Elena has a little sister instead of a teenage brother, she has two friends that were merged into one character (Bonnie) and other little details like that, it's funny, in the books Elena looks like the actress playing Caroline and Caroline looks like the actress playing Elena)

3) no, not at all, a lot of aspects are the same but for the most part it's very different.

4. meh

5. meh

I loved the books when I was 12, re-read them before the show started and thought they were just awful, well, very teenybopper, very predictable, simply written and not all that exciting. And the show, I got tired of it a few episodes in, but I might give it another chase, because so many people I know are absolutely addicted to it.

EDIT

I was only referring to the original series, I should probably add that I know nothing about the newer series, I wasn't even sure that they were out yet, hahaha.
