If you're looking for complicated books, avoid the Twilight series at all costs. It's horrible. But there are several really wonderful books that you might enjoy:

Wicked, the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West

Lord of the Rings is excellent beyond measure

Dhamphir series

The Looking Glass Wars

Faery Wars

Princess of Wands

Anything by Christopher Moore (it's more of the lighter side of literature, but a great read, none the less)

There are a ton of others whose names escape me at the moment, but those should get you started.

The Name Of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.

It's about this boy named Kvothe, who loses his parents to demons called the 'chandrian'.

The book is like Harry Potter in the way that the magic seems so real, and it makes sense!

It's more mature and complicated than Harry Potter, because this boy, Kvothe, has it MUCH harder than Harry.

He's homeless for 3 years, and is constantly bullied.

On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta (she's an aussie so i'm not sure if you'd be able to get it overseas)

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak (also an aussie) (honestly the BEST book i have ever read, i cried sooooooooo much)
