Because I want to read "It", I saw the movie and it was quite scary but i'm not sure if that was because I didn't like the look of the clown. I read Dracula and I found that quite scary when I was reading it in the dark in my grandma's basement bedroom so do you think I would find reading any of Stephen King's books scary?

Yes they are scary! Start with The Stand, that one is about a flu epidemic that sweeps the america and beyond. Its one of the less scary ones and brilliant!

Or his Dark Tower Series which is fantasy style but a bit scary at times. Starts with The Gunslinger

The books aren't really all that scary, but they are beautifully written, it is hard to find a author that is that good at what they do. Carrie was a little disturbing, your right. THe best Stephen King is Salem's Lot. Its very good, about vampires, I was hooked instantly and couldnt put it down. The movies are much more scary than the books.

Some of Stephen King's books are so scary that you'll think about them for years afterwards. I read Pet Semetary about 10 years ago and it scared me so badly that I wouldn't move from the living room until my mum got home!! IT is pretty scary. The film is really quite laughable compared to the book. The book of The Shining is pretty scary too.

Some parts of IT are scary, sure. But IT is a long book so much of it deals with plot and characterization.

Pet Sematary, in my opinion, is his scariest book. Many of his short stories are scary because they are condensed and therefor the impact is greater. If you want to try some of his short fiction pick up a copy of Skeleton Crew, one of the longer stories in that volume(The Mist) is very chilling.

If you liked Dracula then you might also want to try King's 'Salem's Lot. He wrote this novel(his second published novel) after wondering what would happen if Dracula came to modern day America(1975). The book is very good and has many scary parts and is considered vintage King.

In didnt find the movie It scary at all. I thought it was pointless and a rather terrible movie.

I dont find Stephen Kings books scary although maybe a bit creepy.

Try reading The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon or The eye of the Dragon

Stephen Kings "It", is one of the best books I have ever read. Is it scary? Yes, in places. Well, for most of the book, actually. It is so much more in depth than the film, or mini series as I saw it. If you think you will be scared, don't read it at night, but you must read it. If you want a Stephen King story that will not scare you, try.....um.....I'm thinking..............Oh, if you don't want to be scared, try Dean Koontz instead. Good luck.

they're more like creepy or spooky, not actually scary.

there may be parts in stephen king books that send shivers up your spine, but i don't think they're actually scary. but they may be for you, because i don't find movies like "it" scary either.

try the shining if you do want to be scared, the movie is pretty scary. not all of stephen king's books are scary, but they're good, so i would recommend them.

hope i could help!! have fun reading!!!

Yes, I do think you'll find King's books to be scary; those advertised to be so.

I read his book The Shining in a new, large and empty hotel in the high mountains one night, waiting for paint to dry, and I was scared then. Too scared to stop reading, and scared enough to wish there was at least a phone hooked up there.

(Pre-cell phones days.)

Hmm i wouldn't say they are scary but what they definately are is creepy .It ..was very creepy , The Stand was just a great story in the good vs evil mode where both viewpoints are seen. Some of the other books work and some don't.

I'm about half way through It (the book) and must admit, that this is the only book that has come into my dreams - the clown was stood in the background the other night. It is quite creepy. What is it about clowns??

The book is a billion times scarier than the film/serial (whatever it was) Definitely read "It" - I read it 10 years ago when I was 12 and still in High School.

I didn't find it scary. However, it is different than the movie in the aspect that there is more language/violence that sort of stuff if I recall correctly. Just try it, see what you think :)

they're eerie... books and movies are two different mediums, though.

just remember that reading is not the same.

Pet Semetary was good... I loved it. it was also sort of tragic. And the Green Mile was incredible. Also, Nightmares & Dreamscapes.

If you read The Shinning you won't be able to sleep at night....

My mom said that she could barely read it outside in the day with her dad sitting next to her...

Hope you like them!
