Thoughts on starting a blog for my potentially new book?

So I've been very fortunate to not only have finished my first novel a few months ago, but also have one of the best editors in the business (who works at one of the top publishing companies) currently be reading over/editing my manuscript. Now, I don't know if he'll ask me to publish with his company, or even like what he reads, but I feel so lucky that he's even looking at it!

I've been thinking about starting a blog (much like how the amazing Ms. Aprilynne Pike documented her journey to getting her first novel (as well as future ones) published. Now, I wouldn't post my work or the publisher's name or anything like that until everything is set in stone; but I was wondering what you guys thought of the idea? I am hoping that doing so will not only allow me to maybe connect with some of my potential future readers (if I'm fortunate enough to get it published by a publisher one day), but also be able to document my journey down the long windy road, filled with hills and valleys, known as Publishing.

Oh, and also, if you think it's a good idea, do you think I should put the blog under my real name, or the pen name I plan on using for my book?

First, thanks for answering my question!!!! Next, I think that would be a great idea to make a blog! It can give you a chance for your readers to read about you and see what you are doing and talk about the book. I think you should put the blog under the name you wrote the book so people do not get confused, but you can write your real name on the blog somewhere so you get credit for your work. Hope I helped! I think that would be a really good idea. As for whether you should but the blog under your real name or pen name.. I would probably put the latter of the two, then people will know about you before your book gets published :)

A blog is a good idea for new authors because it gets you into the habit of writing regularly. Doing a blog - that is well written - will help you hone your craft.
