Question:
Can anyone help me track down a Children's book?

I am trying to track down a book I remember reading as a child (in the 80s) although I think this book might have been older, it certainly had the feel of an Enid Blyton about it.

Here's what I remember: It was a collection of stories and the one I read over and over was about a greedy boy who when eats a cake/pudding even though his mother/auntie has told him not to. He runs away, into the forest, stumbles across a magical land where he is able to eat as much as he wants. Something bad might happen - I can't quite recall. He eventually gets home having learnt his lesson, apologises and all is forgiven.

Any ideas?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I may be wrong here because I used to read alot of Enid Blytons when I was little. However the names 'Folk of the Faraway tree' or 'More tales from the folk of the faraway tree'. I think it was called something like that. I definitely did read what you described. I remember it involved the wishing chair and the boy was like a guest of the other two children? And he was really naughty? And he felt sick at the thought of eating anymore chocolate cake? But it definitely feels like it was the wishing chair/ folk of the faraway tree series.

I have read this story and I am SURE it is in one of the Enid Blyton collections. I just went and checked two old collections I have, and its not in either of those - so you can cross Chimney Corner and Bedtime Stories off your list... Hope this helps a little :)

Unfortunately, all I can say is it sounds familiar to me and my friends dad.
