If you like mysteries...The Thirteenth Tale, by Diane Satterfeild.

If fantasy is more your speed....The Incarnation series by Peirs Anthony is excellent. Or the Xanth series- lots of puns, and strange characters, by the same author.

Historical Fiction....my favorite is Confessions of A Pagan Nun- about an Irish woman in the early Christian Era...

If you love biographies...Here If You Need Me, by Kate Braestrup is a great read...I laughed and cried with this book- i couldn't put it down.

Harry Potter is ok, but not the most fascinating thing I have ever read.

There are so many good books out there, but if I had to pick one that would interest the most amount of people it would be Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey. It is a fantasy novel, no magic, some adult situations. The heroine is strong and intelligent and the story is both beautiful and compelling.

I'm currently reading "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls. It is amazing!

Read different types of books until you find the genre that really interests you. Go to a book store where you can casually peruse the different choices. You're sure to find something! And you can also try books on CD or tape and simply listen to them. :-) Good luck!

It really, REALLY would've helped if you'd given us some kind of clue as to what you like to read, but ...

I think horror writer Stephen King sometimes gets a bum rap. The man has a way with words. It's more like he paints pictures with them, than he writes with them. When I read his books, I only have to read for a short while. Pretty soon it's more like I'm watching a movie in my mind. Effortless and enjoyable. If the man's chosen genre wasn't horror, I bet he'd get more respect. My favorites by him are "It" and "The Stand." I also enjoyed "Firestarter" and "Rose Madder."

I'm also a huge fan of Anne McCaffrey who is famous for her dragonrider novels. Despite the dragons, these are science fiction, not fantasy books. She usually stirs in a heaping helping of romance too. If you'd like to give her a try, start with either "Dragonflight" (the first in the series) or "Dragonsong" (written for young adults, but perfectly enjoyable for adults too).

Read a book that a movie you like was based on! That way, you already know if you find the plot interesting.

O i can tell you the best book in the world...its called

" a child called it" the Arthur is Dave Pelzer. its a true story about a boy that has to survive being beaten by his mom everyday.

Here is the review if you want to read it:

Dave Pelzer was the second born of five children (Ronald, Stan, Russell, and Kevin (these are not their real names, Russell is actually Richard)). His father was a fireman and, according to Dave, his mother was originally a loving, kind and wonderful person that would do anything for her family. After the abuse had started Dave could tell what kind of day he could expect to have by the way his mother was dressed. If she was all made up then he could expect a good day but if she wasn't he knew to not get in her way.

The book describes the worsening abuse that Pelzer suffered at the hand of his mother and her alcoholism. Most speculate that she had some other addiction or a chemical imbalance but none is known. Among the many incidents discussed is that his mother attempted to burn Dave on a stove when he was 8 years old. It was at this point his mother began to make him go without food for extended periods of time. The abuse gets worse and David is forced to sleep in the cellar and perform hard labor. He got an average of half a meal a day on a good day. When David was 10, she also stabbed him in the stomach—accidentally, as Pelzer notes in the book—and did not take him to the hospital (though she did take care of the wound herself). By this point he was no longer considered part of the family and lived in the basement, denied basic contact, play, and food. His mother stated that she did not want Dave to interact with "her family", demonstrating the lack of regard in which he was held.

Over time the depth of the abuse worsened. Dave claims he was forced to sit in the "prisoner of war" position (head bent backwards facing sky, sitting on hands). His mother stopped using his name and began referring to him first as "The Boy" and finally "It". The punishments are reported to have evolved into "sick games" in which she made her son suffer.

Incidents cited in the book include forcing ammonia down his throat, cleaning a sealed bathroom while inhaling the fumes from a bucket of ammonia mixed with bleach, inducing vomiting followed by forced ingestion, smashing his face against a mirror while forcing him to say "I'm a bad boy", beating him with a rubber hose, lying in the bathtub naked with freezing water for hours, rubbing his face in his baby brother's soiled diaper trying to make him eat his youngest brother's feces, as well as starvation and general malnutrition, and "accidently" stabing him with a knife when he didn't meet the time limit to do the dishes.

In each of the sequels, the author reveals more forms of torture he did not describe in this book (e.g., his mother hitting his neck with a broom handle, causing his neck to swell so that he was unable to breathe).

Initially the abuse did not happen when his father was around. But when David entered first grade for the second time, the abuse began to occur even infront of his fathers' presence. At first he tried to stop the abuse but as time went on felt unable to intervene. David generally only got food when his father was home, for example. His father gradually distanced himself from the house, and finally moved out when David turned 12. About two months later, on the 5th March 1973 David was rescued by teachers at his school.
