I liked the book and the movie. My favorite character is Elizabeth even though she does not like Dr. Darcy at first.

Jane Austen fanatic here! Sad to say, I haven't been watching Masterpiece theater stuff (I started to, but then it went to Pride and Prejudice and I have that on DVD, so I stopped and never started again). As far as the BBC/A&E version of Pride and Prejudice, it's 97% complete and accurate. However, even with 6 hours or so, you can't fit the all of Austen's wonderfulness in a movie. The earlier versions of Austen's works tend to be less accurate that the newer, for the most part, but in general reading them is the way to go. The one book that I liked better as a movie was Mansfield Park - I saw the Frances O'Connor version (newest) and LOVED the movie, and then the book was just... eh. It got better when I re-read, and got over my initial disappointment, but... yea, there will always be a twinge there. Definitely get the books as soon as you can, and if you like what you read you should try Frances Burney as well, she was Jane Austen's biggest influence (Evelina is favorite by her, Cecilia is a little dense). FYI - You can find some really cheaply priced complete sets of Jane Austen :) Enjoy!

I loved Jane Austen's style of writing in Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, Emma and Northanger Abbey, but I particularly enjoyed Pride and Prejudice - especially the serialised version with the delectable Colin Firth as Darcy! Persuasion was probably the least of my favourites.
