I try and read but in the midst of it I lose interest no matter how interesting the book is. I guess I basically tell myself that I should be out experiencing life and being active instead of lying dormant and reading a book. I've googled this and I have tried, what seems like everything, but to no avail I still find reading exhausting and completely dull. I do have an imagination, that's not my problem. I just I find it hard to get inside the imagination of other people. I enjoy non-fictional books but I can't find enough topics to keep me interested for a long period of time.

So why do you want to be the person that reads? What do you think your missing in your life that reading will fill? If you like learning and discovering new topics (you like nonfiction) then maybe pic up some magazines in science or history or whatever. That way you have much shorter articles to read and plenty of pictures and graphs to keep your attention. I love reading science magazines and learning about all the new stuff we're discovering.

Along hose same lines, you could read Internet articles (look for something reliable so that you Can trust the information), or subscribe to journals (journals are a lot like magazines, but are used primarily by researchers to share what they've found). There are journals for everything from literature to quantum mechanics.

You could also try books on tape so that you can be listening to nooks while you do something else. This works terribly for me because I can't pay attention to it if I'm doing other things. But it works grea for my broher who is plowing through a lot of classic literature that way.

Maybe you're just not someone who's meant to be a reader. You can keep looking for a book that will grab your interest. Maybe try reading in smaller doses too. Don't try to push yourself to read for hours on end...try a half hour at a time, and then go do something else for a while. You might also enjoy reading more if you do it during times when there is nothing else to do, like while waiting for an appointment or on a plane, that kind of stuff.

Well, what kind of things interest you? Do you enjoy sports or music or games, etc?

You can go to a book store and find books on any of these subjects. I understand what you mean by not really being hooked on a book when you first start reading. Maybe you should try getting some friends to read a book with you and then you can have discussions on it daily, weekly, or monthly. (which ever you choose) You could also try to read a chapter and then write about it, then read another chapter, and write about that one. Kind of talk to yourself about that book and get your mind going.

I hope this helps.

It's not that you don't like reading.... You obviously don't like the books you have been reading, which gives reading a negative experience for you. And you dont have to spend all day every day reading. You can read one book a month. You can read in the waiting room for a doctors appointment, before you go to sleep, etc. Just a suggestion: Nicholas sparks books are great. I'm not too big on reading but I love those books!

Try listening to audio books instead - the unabridged kind. You can listen to them while you're doing other things, like travelling to work or doing something boring that doesn't require much concentration. That way you'll be absorbing a book without having to devote your full time to reading it.

I'm actually a big reader, but I do listen to audio books too and find them really useful when I've got something boring to do.

I agree with something like comics. They'll keep you interested.

Or you can try a book on tape. It doesn't even have to be for a road trip or something. You can maybe play a game on your computer or work on a puzzle. You wouldn't be reading the book, but you can still be active.

It's probably the books you read. If not . . . try audio tapes, maybe you can't focus on the pages so if it was read to you, it'd be a better expierence.

Only one thing you can do; don't read. Honestly, it's not for everyone and clearly, it's not for you. Sorry I couldn't help more.
