Question:
Writing Books: Publishing, Illustrations and Pen Name?
2014-07-11 10:59:43 UTC
Hey there. I'm writing a book.
Qs. 1: How do I publish my book? Is it okay to publish it on sites like epubbud? I don't want my content stolen. And I don't wanna make trips to the publishing offices or places like that, nor am I writing a book for the purpose of money. I just want to show my talent to the world. (And get famous). So what do I do?

Qs. 2: How many illustrations should I put in my book? I'm a pretty good illustrator too. Do I put one for every chapter, or two every chapter, or an illo for every main incident?

Qs. 3: Ideas for a good pen name? People don't pronounce my name right the first time they read/hear it. Please give me ideas for how to come up with one, not the name itself, because I believe in originality.

Q1: It depends on how you want to publish your book. There is self-publishing or traditional. The traditional route takes a little bit of research. You need to find a publishing house that publishes your genre, and it's best to query a literary agent before sending off your manuscript as a lot of publishing houses won't read manuscripts otherwise.

Q2: Put one where they are needed. It probably shouldn't be a formula (ex: one picture every three pages) because then there might be an instance that a picture is tossed in just to appease the pattern. I'd place pictures where they make sense and most enhance the plot.

Q3: Something short and easy to pronounce I'd recommend. Easy spelling is probably ideal too.

Don't even think about publishing until you've got the entire manuscript complete, and have edited and rewritten it. Once everything is ALL done, then start researching the publishing industry. A good place to start is Absolute Write. http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=233

Put in as many illustrations as you feel is necessary. That's up to you. As is your pen name. Pick a name that means something to you, or feels right. You can browse baby name websites for ideas if you're stumped.

If yoiu don't want your stuff stolen then don't publish it. There's no way anyone can guarantee you that it won't be pirated or that your copyright won't be violated. though, you don't have to worry if you're a nobody who's written a book that no one has ever heard of. The people who get stolen from are big time authors like Stephen King and Dan Brown. Not ppl like you.

The only way to prevent theft of your work is to never publish it. You can't have it both ways.
